The Progressive Motive: Must Halt Progress

- Chip
How about this? Liberals insist that we must find cleaner, natural sources of energy. Then, once production ramps up on the cleaner, natural source of energy, liberals complain about deforestation. What's it going to be? Which is the most important resource? Is it better to have arable farmland or habitats for monkeys? Is there any good way to balance them?

It seems to me that the most important non-renewable resource that exists in the world is land. What makes land valuable?
  1. What is already there?
  2. What's it close to?
  3. What's underneath it?
  4. Can you grow anything on it?
  5. What would be a better use for it?
  6. Who currently owns it?
  7. How will the government let you use it?
This is just what comes to mind immediately. I know that there are many more reasons. This isn't a term paper, it's free media. I want to know what you think is the most important reason for land value. I think, in today's world, it's number seven.

The government tells us what we can and can't do with the land we own. If the government decides that somebody else can better use your land, they make you sell it. If the government doesn't like what you do with your land, they re-zone it to make you stop.

But what about the monkeys?
