I Don't Know What to Think About the Israel- Lebanon Thing
- Chip
Funny, usually I just download my right wing hatemongering thoughts straight from the radio, but for some reason it's not taking.
I completely support Israel's right to defend itself. Don't get me wrong on that. As much as that country has dealt with, I say they blow Hezbollah and Hamas to hell. No mercy, no quarter, no relief. I want to see the blood running from the veins of the last Hezbollah murdering pigf**ker terrorist. The day can't come soon enough.
The problem I have is that it really seems that some people, whose side I'm supposed to be on, seem determined to push the United States into war. With Iran. Rush Limbaugh calls it a "gift to the world." Bill Kristol (he may call himself William when he's talking about serious stuff like war) is spoiling for war. Bill Bennett is ready for the war to start. Glenn Beck thinks it's better now than later.
Me, I'm not convinced. I think that Iran is quite the threat. We definitely don't want them to get nuclear weapons. But I'm not convinced that Iran is capable of dong anything more than stirring up the shit in the Middle East. I'm pretty sure that they are directing Hezbollah. I'm almost convinced that they are directly influencing Muqtada Al-Sadr, the Iraqi Shiite cleric with the militia, to slaughter Sunnis in Iraq. But, my question is, is this a strong enough case for going to war withIraqIran? It will most certainly lead to a very divisive conflict, perhaps even Newt Gingrich's World War III.
I think it's fairly significant that the Pentagon authorized the sale of 24 Black Hawk helicopters and 724 Stryker Armored Vehicles to Saudi Arabia. I don't know that it means we're going to war, but I think it indicates that we know whose side Saudi Arabia will be on if we do.
But who knows?
UPDATE
This post at Treppenwitz quite eloquently puts this conflict into perspective. As I said in the comments, I think that Israel must punish the Muslims who are attempting to rid the world of the state of Israel. This post makes that case very convincingly. You'd be well served to read it.
