Photography Help, Please!

I didn't have the slightest idea that one of the most expensive parts of the wedding is the photographer. It's not something I ever considered, this being the first time I actually had to help plan a wedding. And before I get myself in trouble, let me clarify- by "help" I mean "use Google to find stuff on the internet." But we're finding prices for photographers in the neighborhood of $2000-3000, give or take. We don't want a ton of pictures, mostly candids, not so much the "posed" shots. A few for the families, but we want good memories, not staged ones.

I know that alot of the Charleston area bloggers are also good with cameras, so I was wondering if any of you had suggestions regarding this. We're getting married in Asheville, in August, on the 18th.
